Tractor Trailer Internship Program

The Tractor Trailer Internship Program is for individuals who wish to pursue a career as a long haul truck driver. This course is a twelve (12) week programs (8 weeks at the college and 4 weeks of internship). The internship program was developed in 1994 at Commercial Safety College and put into full operation in 1995. Course Content

Our twelve (12) week program consists of 2 modules - Module 1 being eight (8) weeks of training at the College and Module 2 being four (4) weeks Internship.

Module 1 (at the College) consists of:

  • Safety Studies (70 hrs.)
  • Practical Skills (160 hrs.)
  • Mechanical Skills (70 hrs.)
  • Life Skills, Computer/Internet Familiarization (20 hrs.)

Module 2 (Internship) consists of:

This phase of the program is designed to give students "hands on" experience. It is four (4) weeks long and will give a new driver a minimum of 100 hours driving time with a Fleet Coach.

Prerequisites

In order to be eligible for the Tractor Trailer Internship Program, one must comply with the following criteria.

  • Pass and provide a Nova Scotia Medical
  • RMV Air Brake endorsement
  • Provide a Driver's Abstract
  • Possess a valid Class 5 or higher license**
  • Provide a criminal records search
  • Minimum 19 years of age
  • Provide a Letter of Intent
  • Attend a pre-screening session***

** Anyone falling under the graduated license program must have the 'N' removed prior to starting the program

*** Prior to acceptance, future students are required to come to the school for a pre-screening session which includes a short interview, vision tests, TOWES test, etc.
