Heavy Equipment Training

BackhoeWe offer a twelve (12) week training program broken into four modules so you can take any piece of heavy equipment. Our system allows you the flexibility to take only the training you need to accomplish your goals. Our twelve-week program includes Excavator, Loader, Dozer, and Backhoe. We can also offer other pieces of equipment based on demand.

The training programs are designed to bring a student to the status of a safe entry-level operator of heavy equipment. Graduates will receive a College certificate confirming their proficiency on each successfully completed module. A candidate must pass the program to receive certification.

Pipe LayingThe content of our program is an emphasis on skills (operator time) safety and maintenance of equipment.

Admission

The admission requirements for acceptance into our program are as follows:

  1. Pass/Provide a Class 1 Nova Scotia Medical - These forms are available at your local Registry of Motor Vehicle Office and need to be completed by your family doctor.
  2. Minimum grade 8 as proven with a high school transcript
  3. Must meet College standards for vision, hearing and reaction time.
  4. Must be physically able to operate and perform all other functions necessary to maintain equipment.
  5. Possess a valid drivers license.

Protective Equipment

It is the responsibility of each candidate to arrive for his or her program with suitable protective clothing to work around and operate heavy equipment. Please ensure that you have in your possession the following basic items:Loader

  • Hard Hat (CSA - Type II - Class E) (Approximate cost is $30)
  • Steel Toes Footwear
  • Gloves
  • Coveralls
  • Rain Gear
  • Seasonal Clothing

We offer a 4 week Light Equipment Operators Certification- Level 1 training program.  This program includes telehandler, aerial platform, and skid steer conducted at the College.
